The Worsley Works 12th Modellers Weekend was held at the The Esplanade Hotel, Promenade, Llandudno
Sun, sea, sand and solder were present in abundance. We enjoyed it so much we booked the same hotel again for 13th Weekend
A wide choice of modelling was evident.
A pair of power cars for the Inter City 125 were taking shape and I mean taking shape. These kits are supplied with a plain V shaped front with an indication of how the characteristic shape of the 125 can be produce. See for yourself what can be achieved.
On the same group of tables a GWR Signal Box designed to enable the widows to slide, A number of buildings in 3mm scale and an etched brass wagon on which you had to look very closely to find evidence of the solder used to assemble the kit.
On another table one modeller made a start to at least 6 Parkside wagon kits and then by way of a change built the body of an etched brass LNWR 50' coach in 10mm scale. Across the table a public house based on those found in the north of Scotland was being constructed from card and an LMS Compound from a Worsley Works kit was being transformed from a flat pack.
Yet more wagons were built and more variety was introduced when a card kit for a Tralee and Dingle 2T was started. That group of tables saw the signals for a Southern base third rail electric layout taking shape. A discussion between the builder and a Worsley Works representative will see the frames for some banner repeater signal being produced in etched brass.
When you can purchase two Class 04 Diesels and get most of the bodywork finished and go on and build the body for a Cravens Parcels Car it shows the benefit of being away from distractions.
A father son combination discussed the merits of building an etched LMS Jubilee 4-6-0.
The warm weather saw some of the modellers take a brake, I mean break, and go for a walk. It's surprising what a walk along the pier and promenade can do.
It wasn't all modelling the Friday evening session in the bar say the Modellers come second in the music quiz. Not bad seeing as the missed the first 15 minutes of the quiz finishing the four course dinner, well talking as well.
The partners found plenty to do. Llandudno has a fine shopping area, there walks in abundance and there are a number of local attractions within easy distance. They enjoyed it so much they asked for the same hotel next year. Some are intending to extent the weekend to four days.
The Modellers Weekend is an informal get together of modellers, with experience in scales from 2mm - 16mm, now in it's twelfth year.
We start at 1 o'clock on Friday, earlier if you are keen and run through to Sunday afternoon. Where else could you get over 20 hours of modelling done.
